Initial Diagnosis
A male patient presented to a dental practice with significant tooth loss and ongoing difficulties with conventional dentures. He reported challenges with chewing and speaking, and the instability of his dentures had affected his self-confidence and social interactions. The dentist’s goal was to provide a fixed full-arch solution to restore function, aesthetics, and long-term comfort.
Treatment Plan
The dentist collaborated with Avant Dental on an All-on-X digital workflow that is designed to maximise precision, efficiency, and predictability:
- Scan capture – After implant placement, an intraoral scan was performed to record soft tissue contours, implant positions and Occlusal Vertical Dimensions (OVD) to ensure an accurate design.
- CAD design – The scan data was exported into Avant Dental’s CAD software, where a virtual wax-up( if not done in preplanning)and prosthesis design were completed.
- Lab coordination – Digital files, photographs, and bite records were shared with Avant Dental. Material selection was confirmed, and the design draft was reviewed and approved before manufacturing began.
- Manufacturing – A PMMA provisional was produced direct to the implant fixture. This acted as both a functional temporary and a verification jig to confirm the accuracy of the digital impression.
- Try-in and adjustment – The provisional was seated to verify passive fit, aesthetics, phonetics, and occlusion. Minor adjustments were made chairside before proceeding to the final restoration.
- Final delivery – The adjusted PMMA was rescanned in situ, overlaid and reverse engineered on to the titanium bar and zirconia overlay design. The final zirconia framework on a titanium bar was then issued, with occlusion refined and hygiene protocols provided.
Treatment Summary
This case was delivered using a fully digital All-on-X workflow to ensure precision, efficiency, and predictable results through close coordination between the dental practice and Avant Dental’s lab team:
- Intraoral scans and design data were shared seamlessly for efficient turnaround and accurate fabrication.
- PMMA provisional was produced directly to the implant fixture, and served as both a functional temporary and verification jig.
- The clinician made in-mouth adjustments to the PMMA trial before proceeding to the final prosthesis.
- Adjusted PMMA was overlaid on the titanium bar design to ensure accuracy and predictability.
- Final zirconia framework on a titanium bar was issued, with occlusion refined and hygiene protocols provided.
Final Outcome
The delivery of the final implant-supported zirconia prosthesis provided the patient with immediate improvements in speech, chewing efficiency, and overall comfort. The stable, natural-looking restoration restored his confidence in social situations and eliminated the day-to-day frustrations associated with traditional dentures.
