A fully digital workflow and the latest in aesthetic monolithic zirconia enabled the successful restoration of one of dentistry’s most demanding challenges: replacing a single central incisor to match its natural counterpart.
Initial Diagnosis
The case was received by Avant Dental from Dr Manas Malkan in Cairns, QLD. The patient presented with a missing upper right central incisor (1.1) following a traumatic accident. These cases are typically restored using layered Emax or layered zirconia crowns to replicate the nuances of natural enamel. However, thanks to advances in monolithic zirconia, the lab team used Avant Dental’s Aesthetic Pro Zirconia to achieve a lifelike result with the durability of a monolithic restoration. The case was also an opportunity to leverage a completely digital workflow to enhance precision through seamless collaboration between Dr Malkan and the Avant Dental team.
Treatment Plan
Central incisors sit at the heart of the smile line, and replacing just one – especially after trauma – requires a meticulous approach to ensure harmony in shape, shade, translucency, and gingival integration.
The following plan was implemented to restore the missing central incisor:
- Implant placement using a MIS brand dental implant for optimal osseointegration and long-term stability.
- Custom titanium abutment designed for the case and gold anodised to enhance soft tissue aesthetics and reduce grey show-through.
- Crown fabrication using Avant Dental’s Aesthetic Pro Zirconia – selected for its combination of strength and natural translucency.
